McDonald’s is Joining the Metaverse!

McDonald’s is lovin’ the metaverse. The iconic fast-food chain has filed 12 trademarks for “virtual restaurants” in the metaverse that will provide actual and virtual goods, including home delivery. The trademarks are for both McDonald’s and McCafe. The trademarks were filed for “virtual food and beverage products” that will include NFTs and virtual shops. McDonald’s also filed trademarks for “online actual and virtual concerts.” McDonald’s endorsement of the metaverse could potentially represent an industry-wide move to the virtual realm. Panera Bread has similarly announced trademarks for “Paneraverse” shops, whose trademark filing included NFTs, virtual events and virtual rewards. And recently, beer brand Miller Lite announced the Meta Lite Bar. Virtual IDs will still be checked at the door. You need to be 21 or older to enter.

Users Got Lost in Samsung’s Metaverse Event

Samsung’s virtual launch event for new Galaxy smartphones on Decentraland, a cryptocurrency-focused virtual world, did not go as planned as users found themselves unable to get into the event. The digital event was scheduled on Samsung 837X, a virtual shop Samsung built on Decentraland that is modeled on Samsung’s actual New York City flagship store. Users create an avatar to enter Decentraland whereupon they’re dropped into a virtual lobby from where they can access virtual shops. But many users found themselves unable to find Samsung 837X and unable to enter it once they did. On Twitter, @Sam_L_Shead tweets “Trying and failing to get into a Samsung event in the metaverse” alongside a photo of many users idlying outside the virtual door of the “Connectivity Theatre” where the event was taking place. Gucci Enters the Metaverse via The SandBox

Luxury fashion is rolling out the virtual runway. The Italian fashion house Gucci purchased an undisclosed amount of virtual land in the Ethereum game, The Sandbox where players can buy and develop digital real estate. Gucci has announced its intention to create branded experiences in the metaverse alongside digital fashion for players to purchase and wear. Gucci’s metaverse experience will be developed under the newly-announced Gucci Vault group that is the company’s new initiative for virtual products, including NFTs. Get ready to sip a Macchiato with Guccio Gucci!
